The Department of Geography was first established at Sri Pratap College in 1942, followed by its shifting to Amar Singh College in 1946 and re-establishment in SP College in 1979. The Department continues to integrate physical and human geography with modern geospatial technologies. It focuses on building analytical, research, and technical skills among students.
Geography is a dynamic and interdisciplinary discipline that explores the intricate relationship between humans and their environment. In the contemporary era, Geography integrates traditional knowledge with advanced geospatial technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and spatial analytics to address emerging environmental and socio-economic challenges.
The Department of Geography at Sri Pratap College is committed to fostering academic excellence, environmental awareness, and scientific inquiry through a balanced integration of theoretical knowledge and practical learning. The department provides students with strong conceptual foundations, field-based exposure, and technical skills essential for understanding contemporary issues such as climate change, disaster management, sustainable development, urbanization, and resource planning. Through innovative teaching, research, and geospatial applications, the department aims to nurture responsible, skilled, and research-oriented learners capable of contributing meaningfully to society and sustainable development.
Vision: To develop a Centre of excellence in geographical education and research promoting sustainability and geospatial competence.
