The Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest and distinguished departments of the college with a long tradition of academic excellence and commitment to quality education. The department plays an important role in promoting scientific thinking, logical reasoning, and analytical skills among students.
The department offers the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) in Mathematics (Honours) under the National Education Policy (NEP). The programme is designed with a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach that enables students to combine Mathematics as a Major subject with other disciplines such as Information Technology, Physics, Electronics, English, Chemistry, and Geography.
The curriculum provides strong foundations in Pure and Applied Mathematics through courses in Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Abstract Algebra, Probability Theory, Number Theory, Numerical Methods, and Mathematical Modelling. The programme also introduces students to emerging applications of Mathematics in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Finance, Scientific Computing, and Operations Research.
The NEP-based structure offers flexibility through Major-Minor combinations, Skill Enhancement Courses, Value Added Courses, and research-oriented learning opportunities. Students are encouraged to develop computational skills, problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and research aptitude necessary for higher education and professional careers.
