FYUG Programme in Mathematics (Honours)
The Department of Mathematics offers the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) in Mathematics (Honours) under the framework of the National Education Policy (NEP). The programme is designed to provide students with a strong conceptual foundation in Mathematics along with multidisciplinary and skill-oriented learning opportunities.
The programme follows a flexible and interdisciplinary curriculum structure that enables students to pursue Mathematics as a Major subject while combining it with Minor subjects from disciplines such as Information Technology, Physics, Electronics, English, Chemistry, and Geography. This multidisciplinary approach promotes broader academic exposure, critical thinking, and application-oriented learning.
The curriculum includes fundamental and advanced areas of Mathematics such as Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Abstract Algebra, Probability Theory, Number Theory, Numerical Methods, Mathematical Modelling, Statistics, and Operations Research. The programme also introduces students to modern applications of Mathematics in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, Finance, and Scientific Computing.
The FYUGP structure incorporates Major Courses, Minor Courses, Multidisciplinary Courses, Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC), and Value Added Courses (VAC) to ensure holistic academic development. Students are encouraged to develop computational skills, communication abilities, analytical thinking, and research aptitude necessary for higher education and professional careers.
